The domestic cricket season roars into life next weekend with Zimbabwe Cricket hopeful that the matches will provide a window for national team selectors.
Zimbabwe will be heading to the International Cricket Council World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.
Zimbabwe Cricket spokesperson Lovemore Banda said the season will end in March next year.
“Against the background of a busy international programme for Zimbabwe cricket, we will now have a busy domestic season providing many windows for fans around Zimbabwe to enjoy the local game in all formats,” said Banda.
ZC said while thePro50 will continue its tournament format this season, it will have an additional round of matches to provide further preparation and selection opportunities to the Zimbabwe squad for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The Under-19 side will field a team for the 50-over competition as part of their preparations for the youth global cricket showcase, the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Former national team wicket-keeper, Wayne James, has been retained as coach at Matabeleland Tuskers and will be assisted by Pollock Mubobo.
Tuskers are the only side to retain their coach as former Southern Rocks coach Shepherd Makunura joins Mountaineers.
He will be assisted by Farai Chari while national team bowling coach, Douglas Hondo, is at MidWest Rhinos, where he will have Adam Chifo as his assistant.
Mufaro Chiturumani takes over from Stephen Mangongo at Eagles who will start the season using Old Hararians Sports Club as their home ground because of the pitch rehabilitation of the Harare Sports Club.
