ZIMBABWE is hosting a three-day International Dairy Federation (IDF) Regional Dairy Conference Africa 2026, the second to be held on the continent after its inaugural launch in Rwanda last year.
The IDF was established in 1903, and the event is taking place from March 31 to April 2 in Victoria Falls under the theme: “Driving Dairy Competitiveness and Sustainability in Africa and Beyond.”
This comes on the backdrop of sustained growth in milk production since 2020. Statistics from Dairy Service Unit (DSU) show that commercial milk production has risen 59 percent to 122 million kilogrammes last year from 77 million kg in 2020.
This year, the country is targeting a 10 percent growth in milk production to 134 million to ensure that it is milk sufficient from local production.
Zimbabwe seeks 131 million of milk for self-sufficiency and is targeting to boost production to 400 million litres by 2030.
