2011 Malaika Mushandu took time to sash the finalists, who were drawn from different beauty pageants held during the course of 2012.The lanky model used the opportunity to wish the girls the best of luck and at the same time share a trick or two she has learnt in the industry.
“I urge all the ladies taking part not to take such opportunities lightly. I have had my fair share of contests where I learnt that one has to be careful and not let failure or winning get into their heads. Have fun and make friends along the way because you never know what comes out of that network,” Malaika said.
On the day of the contest, H-Metro will select the lady with the best pair of legs and crown her the Miss Legs 2012.
Mike Tashaya, one of the organisers, cleared the air on the abortion case that cast a cloud on the beauty pageant last week.This followed reports that Miss February, Gamuchirai Maziva, quit the pageant over an alleged abortion.
“We are a Christian country with Christian values and I am sure all of us will agree that Gamuchirai made the right decision by resigning after her alleged abortion scandal. We did not think it was proper for our brand as well as our sponsors to be associated with such issues.
“However, we have since replaced her and the show will go on. The ladies will on Saturday battle it out and the judges will not only look at beauty, height and body. We are looking at beauty with a purpose in a lady who embraces her femininity and can raise the country’s flag high on the international scene,” he said.
Although they remained tight-lipped on the rest of the prizes, the organisers said the ultimate winner will gain entry into the Miss Super National World pageant to be held in Poland next year. The pageant is the first ever Internet-based competition in Zimbabwe that runs for the whole year in which a monthly winner is chosen by the public.
The final contest, however, incorporated other beauty queens from pageants like the Miss Global, Miss Curvy and Miss Southern Africa Zimbabwe among others.
Musicians Suluman Chimbetu, Winky D, Stunner, ExQ, Nox, Ammara Brown, United States-based Cee Jay Besa and many more have been billed to spice up things at the beauty contest.Meanwhile, the models have since adopted children admitted at Harare Children’s Hospital and pledged to raise money to buy Christmas presents for the kids.
The contestants visited the children at the referral hospital, where the kids made their Christmas wishes.
One of the models, Noreen Chimuka, has made a donation at Mai Carol’s Foster Home in Mabvuku.
G-Tel marketing manager Mr Robert Gonye said in the event that the model fails to raise enough money, his company will assist.
“We have been involved in social responsibility activities and if the girls fail to meet their obligations, as a company we are going to chip in and help,” he said.
