THE Bulawayo province primary schools team for the national ball games finals will be selected in the city on Friday. Njabulo Bango, the National Association of Primary School Heads chairman confirmed yesterday that all was set for the championships to take place in four sporting disciplines. He said venues had been spread around the city and was hopeful that the coaches would come up with strong teams for the national competitions to be held in Masvingo.
“We have concluded district games and what is left now are the provincial championships from which we will select teams for the Masvingo games.
“Competitions have been smooth and we are looking forward to an exciting competition,” said Bango.
Netball finals will be at Hugh Beadle Primary School.
Northlea High School will play host to basketball, with volleyball at Mzilikazi Primary School and football at Barbourfields Stadium’s outside pitches.
Bango said he was happy with the growth of basketball and volleyball in his province.
“We have schools in all our districts active in the two disciplines. The district championships also featured the two disciplines,” said Bango.
Football and netball have been the most dominant sporting disciplines at primary schools with athletics restricted to just the first term.
Facilities still remain a challenge with athletes having to labour on pitches and courts used by the elite category including big and heavy balls.
