THE Bulawayo Motoring Club (BMC) successfully hosted its national series event at the Victoria Falls Circuit on Saturday. Drivers and motorcyclists were left with little room for error as competitors and teams were on the edge to gain the best positions of the day, chasing vital points which will count for the national and club championship standings at the end of the year.
Local drivers and riders represented the city well with some of the boys scooping medals at the end of the day that was filled with adrenalin rush which brought spectators on the terraces to a standstill.
In the motor car races, in the ultimate street car race for local drivers only which was sponsored by Auto Quip, Zane Shah came first in his recently refurbished red Conquest which blew out its engine in the previous event.
All eyes had been on Sam Nyamaseka who drove a white BMW from Auto Quip but he lost to Shah.
Darren Pragji’s trusted Datsun pulled out of the race when it experienced an electrical fault and burst into flames in the middle of the race.
It was not long before Angelo Tavares in his Subaru also suffered the same fate as Pragji.
Local favourites Richard Robinson won the sports car class and Tavares the saloon A Class race.
In the motor cycle section, Phil Archenoul proved hard to beat in the super bike race and Gavin Randall from Harare who showed some good riding skills in the 250cc motorbike class also won.
BMC chairman Ian Gutherless said:
“I am very happy that the event was a success, the turnout is very impressive and we would like to thank the Bulawayo public for supporting us.”
