SPORTS and Recreation Commission’s provincial coordinator for Bulawayo Sam Dzvimbu says all is in place for the Social Sports Festival that is scheduled for White City on Saturday.

The sporting gala which was previously known as the winter sports festival was initially slated for August but had to be postponed as the dates coincided with the Heroes’ holiday.

The gala bankrolled by the SRC will see a total of three sport codes mainly targeting community teams being played.

Men and women teams will compete in social soccer, netball and tug of war.

Dzvimbu said their motive was to encourage a national sporting culture among citizens.

“We as SRC will be hosting a sporting event which is strictly for adults on Saturday .The main aim is to inculcate a sporting culture among our adults because we noticed that many adults believe that running around is for kids yet they also need to remain fit.

“We were supposed to have this tournament last month but we decided to be in solidarity with the rest of the nation in celebrating our heroes and so we postponed it,” he said.
