Although the event will be focusing on body builders, the two musicians, who are famous not only for their scintillating music and dances, but also their “bling”, will be out to prove who between them has what it takes to be the “King”.
This, however, does not mean that the stage will be reduced to a virtual battlefield since the two artistes are not just close dudes in the music game but also a source of inspiration to each other.
On show will be Sulu’s ever-impressive backing outfit, Orchestra Dendera Kings, that boasts stellar instrumentalists and dancers, while Mutodi will have the equally talented Real Sounds of Africa Dream Team in tandem.
A major plus is that fans will be spoilt for choice as both sides of dendera music and rhumba will be on offer while the hulks strut their brawn and muscle.
Music lovers from Domboshava and other surrounding areas will have a chance to sample “Mwana Wedangwe’s” latest album “Non-Stop” that has become a hit on the airwaves, in entertainment joints as public transport, among others.
Who doesn’t know the crowd favourites “Dzamutsana”, “Kwedu” featuring grandmaster Oliver Mtukudzi, as well as the title track?
Sulu will without doubt also take advantage of the same gig to go down memory lane by dishing out classic songs by his late father and Dendera Music exponent, Simon, like “Ndaragarira Gamba” among others.
The song is a befitting tribute to the Heroes Day, which is commemorated every year during the month of August.
Mutodi, on the other hand, is also enjoying a fine run what with the popularity of his latest album “Simbi YaMdhara”, whose title has become the catch phrase in local showbiz lingo.
Affectionately known as the “Big Boss” to his rhumba fans. Mutodi is no pushover what with his folklore sing along tunes likes “Chigododanda” and the dance hit “Pershie”.
But the fun does not end there as popular but enigmatic DJ and radio presenter Dr Zobha famed for his jokes will be the MC at the event.
Organised by Oliver Chibage in conjunction with the Mashonaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, the annual event seeks to revive bodybuilding contests in Zimbabwe that have been reeling from lack of sponsorship over the years.
There will be a number of categories, including the seniors segment, the Under-21 juniors category as well as that of the disabled.
In keeping with the spirit of gender equality, ladies will also be participating in the competition.
One of the organisers of the contest, Claude Shambare, who is also the secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, said this year’s edition of the showcase would be bigger and better.
“The response from the bodybuilders has been overwhelming and all things are now in order. What is left is for people to come and enjoy this wonderful contest,” Shambare said.
Shambare added that everyone would be a winner as NetOne lines will be given away to all the spectators and contestants, also promising all who will attend the show a night to remember.
“I urge fans to come out in their numbers and be thrilled in a way that they have never seen before,” Shambare said.
