THE National Premier League is heading for a dramatic conclusion, with only two rounds remaining and three teams still locked in the title race.

SOGO Rangers, Takashinga Patriots 1, and Amakhosi Cricket Club 1 are separated by just two points heading into the penultimate round of fixtures, set for today and tomorrow across various venues. The final round takes place this weekend, bringing the curtain down on what has been a fiercely contested competition.

At the summit, Rangers and Takashinga are tied on 20 points from 11 matches, with net run rate keeping Rangers in pole position. Both sides have suffered just one defeat. Close behind are Amakhosi, sitting on 18 points from 11 outings, with their only losses coming against the two leaders.

Amakhosi Cricket Club 1

Amakhosi have carried Bulawayo’s hopes throughout the season and are pushing to become the city’s first champions. They return to action tomorrow, buoyed by a gritty four-wicket derby win over Queens Sports Club. Their next challenge is against Eastern Titans in Masvingo.

Head coach Fleming Nkomo said his players are determined to finish strongly.

“The boys have done well, but there are areas we still need to improve. There’s work to be done, but I’m proud of them and the effort they’ve put in. Right now, our focus is on ending the season on a high note. We’re travelling to Masvingo on Thursday and hopefully return with another win,” said Nkomo.

Takashinga Patriots 1

While Amakhosi chase Titans, Rangers will face Queens at Kwekwe Sports Club. Queens at present sit seventh and are aiming to secure a top-eight finish, which guarantees a spot in the T20 Blast. Takashinga Patriots 1 also face a tricky test at Old Hararians against Rimuka Cricket Club, another side vying for a top-eight place.

Once the league concludes, the top three clubs will face the Zimbabwe Under-19s in the Champions Trophy, with dates yet to be confirmed.
