The album, which is titled Rock the City, is the trio’s first effort since coming together in September 2010 and they hope the album will earn them rewards for all the work that they put in during their two years in the industry.
Speaking to Chronicle Entertainment recently, group member Hlongwane, better known as DJ 316, said the group had decided to infuse house music into their debut offering because of their desire to tap into diverse musical markets.
“We decided to bring house to our normal urban grooves sound because we felt that in order to capture a diverse number of people we also had to change our sound in favour of a sound that caters for as many people as possible,” said Hlongwane.
He said the group had faced various financial problems in the build-up to the release of the album and although their performances had earned them praise, the reception for the album had not equalled their high expectations.
“The problems we faced prior to the release of the album are the same as those we are facing now. We are faced with financial problems hence the difficulty in publicising our album and giving the public a chance to appreciate our sound,” said Hlongwane.
Another group member, Ushe, said the group’s performances at some of the high-profile shows in the city in the recent past had allowed them to build a solid reputation, as the crowds had been welcoming of their energetic performances.
“We performed at the Zahara show and people loved our music and the same can be said of our performance on Ztv Channel 2. The reception of our music on such shows has been encouraging and gives us hope to continue despite the challenges that we might face,” said Ushe.
The Entumbane-based trio’s album can be accessed at various music stores in the city while it is also available for download online.
