Ambassador Chikawa presents credentials to Guyana President

ZIMBABWE’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cuba Mr Paul Chikawa presented his credentials to Guyana President Dr Mohamed Ifaarni Ali last week.

He will also be covering Havana, Cuba.

“On August 27, I had the honour and privilege to present copies of letters of credence from His Excellency, President Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa, to the President of Guyana, Dr Mohamed Ifaarni Ali,” he said.

“Being work in progress and in line with established diplomatic protocol, I wish to state and reassure Zimbabwean people that President Mnangagwa’s Zimbabwe is open for business call and his exhortation not to leave any one or any place behind is resonating well in our interactions.”

Amb Chikawa said the Caribbean nation of Guyana offers vast opportunities for Zimbabwe, especially in the area of agriculture.

He paid tribute to former Guyana Foreign Affairs Minister and second Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Sir Shridath Ramphal, who passed away last week.

“Sadly, one of Guyana’s best-known foreign ministers, who was also the second Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Sir Shridath Ramphal, passed on on 30 August, hardly three days after I had paid tribute to him in his role in the emancipation of Zimbabwe, especially in his capacity as Commonwealth Secretary-General.

“To be fair, Guyana herself also supported our liberation movements, as was the case with virtually all the other Caribbean countries …”
