Amini injury keeps Platinum waiting

platinum miners, who have already bagged the pre-season Bob’88 Super Cup, beat Hwange 3-1 in the semi-finals last week to boost their ambitions to win this year’s Uhuru Cup for the first time.
Last year’s finalists Dynamos will clash with Hwange in the third place play-off at White City in Bulawayo tomorrow.
FC Platinum have made it no secret that they harbour ambitions to rake in as many cups as they can lay their hands on after narrowly missing out on the championship last year.
Club secretary, Phillimon Muvengwa, yesterday said their charges are looking forward with confidence following back-to-back matches with Hwange inside the last seven days.
While spirits could be high in the camp, their only worry is on Amin who missed the weekend drawn league game against Hwange at the Colliery.
Amin was injured in the semi-final against the same opponents last week and had to be rested for the league game, which followed four days later.
“We didn’t receive any reports of injuries after the weekend games.
“It’s only Qadr who is injured from last week and the doctors are still assessing his condition.
“We just hope he should be okay for the game,” said Muvengwa.
Striker Donald Ngoma is still out with an ankle injury he suffered earlier in the year.
Ironically Ngoma was also injured in a game against Hwange, in the final of the Bob 88 Super Cup.
Muvengwa, however, said FC Platinum will treat the Mighty Bulls, who proved difficult customers in their two league meetings last year, with caution.
The Mighty Bulls beat FC Platinum 2-1 at the Motor Action Sports Club in their first league game and then went on to settle for a draw at Mandava in the reverse fixture.
The sides clashed again early in the year with FC Platinum winning 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Bob’88 Super Cup at Sakubva.
“We are obviously excited to be playing in our second cup final at this point in the season.
“We have the Bob ’88 Super Cup in the cabinet but we are very aware that Motor Action are a more experienced side when it comes to cup games.
“They have played in almost half a dozen finals in the last two years.
“But as much as they want to win this one, we also need it. It’s exciting and I believe winning it would give us some motivation this year.
“Our plea to our fans is that they should be patient with the team.
“We are quite aware of the heartbreak they suffered last year when we failed to win the title. But we promise to do better this year,” said Muvengwa.
Dynamos and Hwange will meet for the bronze medal in Bulawayo.
Both sides will be seeking redemption following disappointing results in the Premiership race at the weekend.
Hwange were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Platinum at home while DeMbare crashed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Monomotapa at Rufaro.
This made Monomotapa joint leaders with Chicken Inn and Shabanie Mine on seven points following the third round of games at the weekend.
Shabanie Mine, who dramatically survived relegation on the last day in the previous season, sit at the top because of a superior goal difference.
Coach Luke Masomere said he is not eyeing big targets this year but aiming for a top-eight finish.
“I think we are better off this year than we were last season but I cannot say we are aiming for the title.
“We are not yet at that level. In fact we have no pressure to finish at the top of the table because we have said our aim is a top eight place at the end of the season,” said Masomere.
