ANDY MURIDZO CHANGES, FOCUSES ON CAREER

ANDY Muridzo might have weaknesses off the stage but there are signs he is evolving into the singer his fans have always been yearning for.

Buoyed by his amazing voice, powerful song writing technique and good stage presence, the Jeetaz Band leader now appears to be on the right track.

His management team of Ronald Mujuru and Gift Petro seems to have mastered the art of handling the singer, who was almost losing the plot, just a few years back.

There is also a strong bond between him and his fans.

In recent shows he has been staging, in and outside Harare, Muridzo has been impressive.

Last weekend, he held two shows in Harare where H-Metro noted some positives for the singer who almost ruined his career with off stage antics.

“When I came on board, as part of his management, we drew some short-term, medium and long term plans for his group and he complied.

“During that time, he was always in the press for all the wrong reasons and we resolved that we were going to help him.

“We constantly remind him of the goals, and dreams, which we are chasing and he has been complying with us,” says Mujuru.

Andy’s camp told H-Metro that he was now maturing into a man.

“Of course, he once carried the ‘bad boy’ tag but it was part of growing up.

“He is now dedicated to his job to the extent that he spends a lot of his time doing music.

“It’s either he is busy in the studio or simply holding rehearsals with the band and perfecting their act.

“Music wise, he is evolving if you have noticed.

“Considering his big fan base, he has recorded a couple of gospel songs like Jeso Ndimombo.”

He added:  “He has a couple of English songs because we want him to reach out to a wider market. However, we still encourage him to do 90 percent Afro fusion and 10 percent other genres.”

As part of his way of giving back to society, Muridzo is reportedly paying school fees for less privileged kids in Murewa.

“He took us by surprise when he told us that he was paying school fees for three children in Murewa up to Grade 7.

“This alone shows that he is now maturing into a man. By paying school fees for the kids he is not related to, it shows that he is now mature,” says Mujuru.
