Anglican Mothers Union holds conference

ANGLICAN Church’s Diocese of Manicaland held its annual Mothers’ Union conference at St Augustine’s Mission in Penhalonga from August 11 to 14.The annual conference was held under the theme: Roman 12:2 Mindset Transformation (Kushandurwa kwepfungwa).

Over 1 000 senior women from different Anglican churches around the province attended the conference.

Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Bishop Erick Ruwona and wife, Mrs Ruwona, who is the president of MU also graced the event and shared wisdom to the congregants during their main service.

In her sermon, Mrs Ruwona encouraged women to be always positive in whatever they do.

“You should have a positive mind for you to have a better life. Most people fail to change the way they think about their lives, a reason why they remain on the same spot,” Mrs Ruwona.

Bishop Ruwona went on to encourage women to be self reliant.

“Some people rely on other people, some on donors and donations.

‘‘I have never heard of anyone who became rich from donor funds.

A person should be able to assess the problem that is around him, plan on how to conquer the problem and be faithful to God just like Nehemiah who gave all to the Lord,” said Bishop Ruwona.

This year’s three-day conference accorded elderly women a chance to be screened for cervical cancer. They were also tested for other related diseases like HIV and Aids.

Mothers’ Union administrator, Mrs Lorraine Chemhere, said elderly church women were screened for cervical cancer on the day.

“They were screened at the St Augustine’s Clinic with professional health team from the New Start Centre in Mutare.

“Previously we did not have these additional programmes. We would have our services as women only.

Most women screening and were also tested.

This was a private process as women were not forced, but were encouraged to get tested and be screened,” said Mrs Chemhere.

 

Dr Kavhenga, Dr Chikoore, Dr Tatira and Dr Machinga (psychotherapist) had the chance to give counselling advice to the congregants on related health issues.
