Another drag racing treat at Donnybrook

Sports Reporter
DRAG racing fans enjoyed another thrilling day at Donnybrook on Sunday at the fourth event of the 2013 Telecel Drag Racing Series.
The event drew another huge crowd of over 2 700 racing fans and a very good turnout of 60 competitors.
The usual wide range of vehicles could be seen racing the quarter-mile straight, comprising many of the regular competitors and a few very welcome first-time drivers or regular drivers in different vehicles.

In usual fashion, the crowds swelled by late afternoon to witness the very popular end of day Eliminations Event.
This event saw a very close and exciting final race between Allan Cacace in his popular V8 AC Cobra and Z Mussa in his eye-catching blue Subaru STI.

Although Cacace had posted the fastest time of the day during the Qualifying Class with a time of 12.431, the title of “Fastest Eliminator Car of the day” went to Mussa.

The title of “Fastest Motorcycle of the Day” came as unexpected to many with A. Pereira riding his Suzuki GSXR taking the title and Derick Shelton on his Kawasaki ZX14 behind in second position, both riders ousting the usual “King of the Track”, Phil Archenoul.
Other vehicles either having some fun or racing competitively were a range of Skylines, Subarus, BMWs, V8s and hot hatches.
All in all an impressive variety to entertain racing fans.

As promised, crowds were also treated to an exciting end of day Spinning Demonstration by the Fat Cat and Co. Spinning Crew.
Susan Zevgolis of the Dragpro Club said: “We are delighted to be welcoming a few new competitors at every event. Some of these newcomers are even already being placed in the top three in their class — pretty impressive indeed considering they can only improve with more experience.

“Congratulations to these newcomers, we look forward to seeing them on a regular basis at upcoming dragpro events.”
The next event is scheduled for November 3 and racing fans will be hoping for fine weather on this day.
