Another five-day leave extension

H-Metro Reporter

THE employee at the centre of the controversy, which has exploded at the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company, extended her leave by another five days yesterday.

This means that Rutendo Mangatu will have served 24 days of leave by the end of this week.

She hasn’t been at work since chief executive Mark Mabhudhu was suspended.

She first took a two-week leave break, on the day the CEO was suspended, and then added another five days. Mangatu was expected back at work yesterday but arrived only to advise that she would be extending the leave by another five days.

“There would have been a problem if she had decided to start work today (yesterday) since the CEO office, where she was working from, remains locked,” said the sources.

“It would have been a crazy arrangement to let her work from that office when the CEO is on suspension. The office belongs to the CEO and not her.

“But, she decided to take another five leave days. She first called a board member and she was crying. The board member was concerned for her and recommended that the company send some people to her home to help her deal with her ordeal.

“However, before the team would go there, she arrived at the office and extended her leave.”

Mangatu has been grabbing headlines after it was revealed that she was promoted into a position, which does not exist within the firm’s structures. And, in a bizarre set-up, was partitioned a portion of the office of chief executive officer to work from.

This strange arrangement provided ammunition to those, within the company, who claim there was a romantic workplace relationship between Mangatu and Mabhudhu.

Both have denied the allegations with Mabhudhu telling H-Metro last week that this was part of a smear campaign to tarnish his image by those who orchestrated his suspension from work.

Mangatu also dismissed the allegations and defended Mabhudhu as an upright and very professional man while also sensationally claiming there was rampant sexual abuse at ZCDC.

She claimed senior executives have been pestering her for sex since her arrival at the firm in 2017 and she would lift the lid on their shameless activities in due course.

Ironically, But, her meteoric rise has surprised many at the firm and within one year, Mangatu was promoted THREE times, including into a very senior ghost position, which doesn’t exist in the company’s structures.
