IT was another massive crowd of thousands of women as the Doek and Slay party rolled into the capital for the first time this year.

Known for blending fashion, empowerment, music and sisterhood, the latest edition of Doek & Slay drew another massive crowd of women from different walks of life.

They were all dressed in colourful outfits and the signature headwraps, which have become synonymous with the event.Doek & Slay continues to set the bar high and yesterday’s huge attendance was another demonstration of the show’s appeal.

The first show in the capital this year was headlined by Winky D, Killer T, Oriyano and the Travellers Band.

Atenda Chinx was the surprise act and the show was held at Glamis Arena.

Doek & Slay has become a household name in local entertainment circles and it has become the biggest outdoor social event in Zimbabwe.

Winky D had another good day at the office as most of his hits were well received by the women.

Oriyanol left the crowd clamouring for more in what was probably one of his best performances. His stage communication, interaction and, of course, his body language, proved that he meant business. The chanter connected with the crowd with sing-along tracks

Atenda Chinx, performing for the first time at the event, was a hit with her dances.“Doek & Slay is always an experience. The heat was too much, but staying home was never an option,” said one reveller. Another woman said the event continues to be a box office attraction because it has distinguished itself as an occasion which the women feel it really belongs to them. Some of the women who spoke to H-Metro said this was their ninth appearance at a Doek & Slay party. For them, it is now a tradition to attend every edition, no matter the identity of the artists who play at the show.

Another woman says she has made it a tradition to attend every Doek & Slay event in the capital in the last three years. She could have been speaking on behalf of many other women who were at the show yesterday.

Over the years, Doek & Slay has built a loyal following in Zimbabwe and outside the country, attracting large crowds wherever it is hosted.

The Harare edition continues to be the premier events, dwarfing other shows, under this franchise, which are held across the country.

As the sun set and temperatures eased, the celebrations even appeared to go a notch higher.
