NO matter the drug, it will take you on a rocky road full of misery and addiction. Don’t fall for its promise of thrill, it will drag you down in a deep hole that will be increasingly hard to come out of. Talking on how awful are drugs local media house Ya-sibo is set to release a movie on 16 December titled Thunqa which will address drug related problems among youths.
In an interview with Sunday Life, the director of the movie, Daisy Tatenda Gapare, the movie is basically meant to address the deepening drug problems on youths.
“Thunqa is inspired by the nickname Ntuthuziyathunqa, it’s symbolic for a city smoldering and in crisis as it burns from a young generation that is involved in drugs,” she said.
She said the movie was shot locally and it has some prominent figures.
“The movie was shot in the CBD and other local suburbs and in the cast we have media personality Nyasha Diva Mtamangira, comedian Ntando Van Moyo, Skhanyiso Mlambo, local artistes such as Palmer Mharadze and others,” said Gapare.
This project is unique because it deals with drugs, a problem that is the order of the day in Bulawayo and in Zimbabwe as whole.
“I think this project is distinctive as it tries to tackle one of the hot issues in the society (drugs) of which many people are reluctant to work on and give it a closer look. We have done Qiniso and Jane the Ghost, all these films got award nominations and it had some screenings in Germany. As a company we are looking forward to doing more feature films we are not stopping,” said Gapare.
