Anti-virus crew to host concert

The show, titled Scream the Concert, will try to give exposure to new and established artistes in the city’s youth entertainment sector with acts set to perform at the event including Kasi Lunatics, Rebirth, the all female dance crew H-3 and Anti-virus themselves.

Prince Dube, a member of Anti-virus, said that the concert in addition to giving a platform to the youth to express themselves, was also part of efforts to change stereotypes that the public held about hip-hop and dance in particular.

“People in Bulawayo are usually of the opinion that hip-hop dancing cannot be taken seriously as a career option and that is a view we aim to change through this concert”, he said.

He said that the show was different from the Breakdown event they held in April. Scream the Concert was not a competition but also included other disciplines besides dance.

“Scream will be different from Breakdown in that there will be no prizes up for grabs and it will also include the added attraction of rap and singing besides dance”, he said.

He said public reception of the event had been excellent thus far with youths around the city grabbing the tickets and gift cards on offer.

Dube said they had also signed a contract with House of Merowe which in future would see them travelling around the country raising awareness around issues like alcohol abuse and gender violence.

“As a group we also have a social responsibility to educate the country’s youth about issues that affect them on a day to day basis”, he said.

He also said that although their main target audience was the city’s teenagers, their show was also open to adults.
