ASPIRING filmmakers across Africa are invited to apply for the 2026 intake of the highly regarded MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), a fully-funded training initiative designed to nurture the next generation of African directors, scriptwriters, producers and industry professionals.
Since its inception in 2018, MTF has established itself as a premier platform for young talents seeking to elevate African storytelling. The program offers a comprehensive nine-month curriculum that combines online learning with intensive in-person training at its academies located in South Africa, Nairobi (Kenya), Lagos (Nigeria) and Lusaka (Zambia). The strategic setup aims to develop practical skills, industry knowledge and valuable professional networks for participants from at least 14 African countries.
Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations at MultiChoice Zimbabwe, Gerald Ngonyamo, emphasised the importance of the program for Zimbabwean youth and the broader African film industry.
“We are excited at the prospect of more Zimbabweans being selected for 2026,” Ngonyamo said. “Since the program started, Zimbabwe has consistently had at least two students each year and we hope to see this continue.”
Following MultiChoice’s recent integration into the international media giant CANAL+, the organisation has renewed its commitment to empowering
African creative through the MTF initiative.
“Young Africans with a passion for storytelling now have an excellent opportunity to join the movement and give Africa a stronger voice globally,” Ngonyamo added.
Participants in the MTF program benefit not only from industry-leading training but also from opportunities to produce their own films, which are broadcast on popular channels such as Maisha Magic, Zambezi Magic, Africa Magic and streaming platforms like Showmax. The program’s alumni have seen considerable success, with over 40 films produced and more than 50 new production companies launched by graduates.
“The impact of MTF on the African film scene is evident,” Ngonyamo said.
“Many alumni have earned accolades at major festivals and awards like the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Kalasha Awards and Women in Film
Awards. Some have even participated in international markets, collaborating on projects across the globe.”
Graduates of the program often find employment within the MultiChoice ecosystem or venture into independent production, playing a vital role in shaping Africa’s entertainment landscape. The accreditation earned through MTF increases their visibility and marketability, making them highly sought after within the industry.
Ngonyamo highlighted the program’s focus on supporting local content development and economic growth. “MTF is not just about training, it’s about fostering a new wave of African filmmakers who tell authentic stories that resonate worldwide,” he said.
“This initiative contributes to cultural preservation and international recognition for African cinema.”
