RAW sewage has been flowing into the yards of Arcadia residents for three weeks, exposing them to health hazards.
Harare City Council has not attended to a burst sewer pipe, forcing residents to contend with the stinky situation.
One resident, Michael Pfara, blamed the Council for negligence, and said his family has since stopped using the toilet, as it is blocked.
His septic tank now has sewer flowing everywhere.
“I have been calling the city council, they promise to come, but they never show up,” he said.
“The situation is unbearable.
“We have resorted to using our neighbour’s toilet, but there is sewage there too and now we don’t know what to do.

“The situation is so bad that I now fear for the health of my family.
“Our home has become a health hazard, there are flies everywhere and the stench is unbearable.”
Another resident, Lucia Matondo, said they dug makeshift sewer ponds to stop the sewage from flowing into their homes.
“Sewage is mixing with water. It has been like this for a long time. This is how we contract diseases like cholera,” she said.
“I appeal to the council to repair the burst pipes.
“We have, on several occasions, reported the matter to the council, but nothing has been done.”
Efforts to get a comment from the city council were fruitless.
