Arimuzhu crowned Miss Gweru

VIVACIOUS Midlands State University student, Tapuwanashe Arimuzhu, 23, is this year’s Miss Gweru after beating 10 other contestants.
It was all glamour and glitz at the 6th annual Miss Gweru beauty pageant held at Cathedral Hall in Gweru at the weekend when the 11 contestants walked onto the ramp.

Tapuwanashe, a final year Geography and Environmental Studies student, was a crowd favourite mainly because of her poise, confidence, intelligence and stunning beauty.

Another MSU (Media studies) student, Blessing Mudiwa, 19, was first princess while Nyarai Masunga, 19, an O-level student at Herentals College in Mkoba, was second runner up.

The beauty queen, Tapuwanashe, won a weekend trip to the resort town of Victoria Falls and will stay at the Elephant Hills hotel.

She also won an evening gown valued at $150 from the House of IAM while Image Modelling Agency will sponsor her driving lessons.
The 2nd and 3rd princesses each won a trip to Victoria Falls.

Event organiser and director of the Image Modelling Agency, Mavis Koslek, said the Miss Gweru Beauty pageant was a success.

She said the pageant was designed with a specific target to project the city’s image as the capital of the Midlands province.

The pageant, Koslek said, embodies great attractions and infrastructure of Gweru.

“Everything went well, everyone was excited about the event which we designed simply to promote Gweru, its culture, beauty and to empower the girl child,” said Koslek.

This year’s beauty pageant was held under the theme, “Gweru the City of Progress – from old to new.”

Koslek said the theme was in line with the city’s commemorations of the milestone centenary celebrations. The city attained municipal status on July 17, 1914.

She said the girls competed in three sessions; the intimate wear, talent competition and the evening session.

The Miss Bikini prize went to Blessing Mudiwa, while Nyarai Masunga was named Miss Talent. Miss Personality, which is voted for by the contestants themselves, went to Natasha Moyo and Miss Punctuality was won by Kudzai Mafusire from Bulawayo.

The event was graced by City Mayor, Hamutendi Kombayi.

The judges cast had Gladys Bhana from the office of the Town Clerk, Amera Petker, an international law student from the UK, Peter Gwaza from Ke Nako Media in Harare and Tony Friday of ZiFM.

This year’s beauty pageant was sponsored by various organisations who include Midlands Hotel, ZiFM Stereo, Elephant Hills, Crazy 8 and the House of IAM.
