POLICE have warned residents in Mabelreign and surrounding suburbs in Harare to be wary of a gang of three armed and dangerous criminals who are targeting homes and churches at night, robbing victims and allegedly committing sexual assaults.

In a public notice, the Officer in Charge of Mabelreign Police Station, Chief Inspector Progress Mangena, said the suspects were armed and extremely dangerous.

Chief Insp Mangena urged members of the public to heighten security and remain vigilant.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police, Mabelreign, wishes to alert members of the public about the presence of three dangerous and notorious criminals currently operating within the Mabelreign area and surrounding neighbourhoods,” she said.

Chief Insp Mangena said one of the suspects is tall, of medium build and dark in complexion, while the other two are short and slim, with one light in complexion and the other dark.

She said the suspects were reportedly armed with a rifle, crowbars, knives and a large torch.

Chief Insp Mangena said the trio was targeting residential homes and churches, particularly at night.

“They are targeting residential homes and churches, particularly at night. After stealing valuables, they have also been reported to sexually assault and rape victims,” she said.

The warning comes amid growing concern over violent crime in residential areas, with residents being urged to strengthen security at their homes.

Members of the public have been advised to ensure all doors and windows are securely locked, especially during the night, and to reinforce security measures such as burglar bars and alarm systems.

Chief Insp Mangena also urged residents to avoid opening doors to strangers during late hours, travel in groups where possible and immediately report any suspicious persons or activities in their areas.

She appealed to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Mabelreign Police Station.

“All information will be treated with strict confidentiality. Together, let us work to keep our community safe,” Chief Insp Mangena said.

Police are expected to intensify patrols in the suburb and surrounding neighbourhoods as investigations continue.
