KADOMA’S most feared thug, Arnold Magaso (32), has been slapped with 22 years in prison after being convicted on eight chilling counts of armed robbery.
Magaso, together with his partner-in-crime Gadson Kudzai Makonye (29) and other fugitives still on the run, left a trail of terror as they stormed mines and businesses in a gun-blazing crime spree between 1 and 17 December 2023.
Their first hit, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) was at Funny Milling Plant where the gang fired shots to intimidate staff before looting a TV, decoder, cellphones, cash, and other electronics.
The crew then hit Great Wise Mine, turning it into a warzone. They fired more shots and made off with minerals, cyanide, a Toyota Baby Quantum, and valuables from workers including cellphones and cash.
The final known target was Eiffel Blue Mine, where the gang again stormed in, opened fire, and vanished with a Toyota Hilux.
Magaso was found guilty on all eight counts and sentenced to 30 years, with 8 years suspended for good behavior. He’ll serve an effective 22 years behind bars.
Makonye got a slap on the wrist — convicted only for receiving stolen goods. His punishment? A US$150 fine or 30 days in jail.
The manhunt continues for the rest of the armed gang.
