Mhungu was convicted of armed robbery charges when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr William Bhila after a full trial.
Prosecutor Mr Norman Tsarwe proved that on September 28, 2009 Mhungu and three others who are still at large drove in a Toyota Cressida to Kwikspar at Clyde Shopping Centre.
They were armed with a Noringo pistol and parked their car a distance away and walked to the supermarket.
They stormed into the supermarket and ordered everyone to lie down.
Two of the armed robbers went to the cash office and ordered the supervisor to surrender all the day’s takings.
He complied and gave Mhungu US$5 680 and also took a Nokia 6111 belonging to a worker.
Mhungu and his accomplices fled from the scene using the get away car.
On October 19 the same year, Mhungu was arrested and led police to the recovery of the pistol.
