THREE armed robbers held a Beitbridge woman hostage at her home and robbed her of R7 000, $300 and two cellphones on Tuesday.

The gunmen pounced on Ms Konanani Ncube (60) while she was relaxing with her daughter, Precaution Mleya (23) at their home in Mapayi Village under chief Matide at around 7PM.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the armed robbery.

No arrests have been made so far.

“I can confirm that we received a report of three men who robbed a woman and her daughter of R7 000, $300 and two cellphones at gun point.

They fled from the scene and investigations are underway,” said Insp Ndebele.

He warned members of the public against resisting armed robbers. “Even when you suspect that robbers are carrying a toy gun, never resist,” said insp Ndebele.

Last week, unidentified men broke into a house in Filabusi at night and got away with cash amounting to R24 000, $160 and two cellphones that were in a bedroom in which the owner was sleeping.

They fled from the scene unnoticed and the owner of the house only noticed the theft in the morning. — @winnie_masara
