ARMED robbers raided Sinoblast (Pvt) Ltd Genesis Pharmacy Mining Syndicate in Gadzema.
Acting Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Belinda Nyazire, told H-Metro that Sinoblast is a Chinese company owned by a businessman identified as Mr Wu.
She said the company has a licence for storage of explosives used in mining operations.
The company acquired one hectare of land from Genesis Pharmacy Syndicate Mine for its operations.
Ass Insp Nyazire said Genesis Pharmacy Syndicate Mine is owned by Desire Mungofa, 47.
She said Mungofa is also employed by Sinoblast as a blaster and salesman.
Sinoblast stores and sells explosive kits used in mining operation.
Ass Insp Nyazire said the robbery occurred on February 6.
On the day before the robbery, Mungofa knocked off duty and left the metal container door locked.
Ass Insp Nyazire said an internal security guard William Chigume, 31, of Ingezi, Kadoma, was on duty manning the premises.
On February 6, at around 8 am, Mungofa returned to work and noticed that the doors to the metal container were wide open.
“He discovered that two locks had been broken and left on the ground.
“Mungofa alerted Chigume and they both entered the container.
“Whilst inside, they noticed that some people had entered the interior room, broke a lock to a small metal safe box and stole cash exceeding US$12,000.”
She said a report was filed at ZRP Chegutu.
“It was observed that unknown accused persons entered the premises from the eastern direction after cutting the security fence,” said Ass Insp Nyazire.
“The premises have no lighting system.
“Investigations are in progress.”
