SIX armed robbers raided the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority head office last Friday night and got away with over $45 000.The money, according to the authority, had been deposited for “safekeeping” in a safe.
Police confirmed the incident.
Responding to questions from The Herald, the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority said the robbers entered the complex after subduing the security guards who were on duty.
“The robbers got away with cash amounting to $45 625 that had been deposited for safekeeping in a safe,” said the authority.
“The funds had been paid by clients. Two of our security guards were injured; one suffered five broken ribs and is currently hospitalised, while the other one was treated and discharged.”
Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said investigations were ongoing.
“We received a report of armed robbery and we have since established that there were six unknown adults who subdued the guards and stole the money,” she said.
“Investigations are going on and definitely the culprits will be brought to book.”
She added: “We urge people not to keep large sums of money at their homes or offices. Money should be deposited in banks to avoid such cases.”
Snr Ass Comm Charamba said another case of armed robbery had been reported in the Midlands province.
“Again, six unknown adults, with 303 rifles raided Duzi compound at a mine and subdued the guards before getting away with goods valued at $450, including 10 grammes of gold,” she said.
“We urge people to step up security at such institutions while those on guard to be alert always. They should also have phone numbers of the nearest police station.”
