Rev Damasane is the principal director in the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the National Art Gallery at 5pm, is being held to give artistes an opportunity to outline their plans for the year, while also giving them the chance to quiz Damasane on the ministry’s future endeavours for the arts.
In an interview one of the organisers Raisedon Baya said the meeting would offer all relevant stakeholders in the arts an opportunity to collectively tackle issues that affected them.
“We have requested this meeting so that we are able to sit down as artistes and look at the issues that affect us. The idea is that we sit down with the principal director, thrash out all these issues and find a way forward,” he said.
Baya said the meeting would give them the chance to air their wishes and ambitions for the year. The meeting would also afford Rev Damasane an ideal opportunity to outline the Ministry’s plans for the arts sector.
“By getting audience with the director we shall be able to tell him our hopes and wishes for this year. It will also give us a chance to hear what the ministry has in store for us because we are also interested in hearing about their plans for the arts,” he said.
Baya said the meeting was open to all artistes in the city regardless of their standing in the arts industry.
“This is an open call to all artistes in the city and all are welcome. The principal director will first meet with teachers during the day and thereafter meet with artistes,” he said.
