MUSIC lovers witnessed a vibrant burst of a fresh sound this weekend as the debut album, ‘Between Knees and Dreams’, hit the stage, introducing a new genre dubbed ‘Afrovibes’ to Zimbabwe’s music scene.

The launch, held this Saturday evening in the capital, showcased 21-year-old Tapiwa Sadi, also known as Taps Lee, who described Afrovibes as a fusion of Afro-beat, R&B and gospel.

The debut album marks Sadi’s entry into the music scene.

“I created a niche called Afrovibes. It’s a combination of Afro‑beats, R&B and gospel,” said Sadi during the launch, adding that the genre “adds a bit of spice” to existing music genres and is designed to resonate with listeners across Zimbabwe and beyond.

The eight-track album features songs such as ‘Not For My Sake’, a track about selflessness and seeking success for the benefit of others, ‘Menyengetero’, a prayerful plea to God for forgiveness and ‘Shanda’, an upbeat anthem urging youth to work hard for their dreams.

The album’s title, Sadi said, reflects the idea of conquering challenges “between knees and dreams,” encouraging listeners to kneel in prayer and fight for their aspirations.

Beyond the music, Sadi used the launch to condemn drug and substance abuse among Zimbabwe’s youths, calling on young people to shun substances and focus on self‑reliance.

“Let’s not be discouraged by the toughness or whatever trials and tribulations we face. Let’s keep trying, keep pushing,” he said.
