THE summer weather is expected to remain hot and humid for the next few days in most parts of the country.
The Meteorological Department has urged people to keep hydrated and avoid direct sunlight.
The MET Department said:
”Hot and humid daytime conditions may affect the body’s conditions, with dehydration and sunburn being common during this period.
“Keep hydrated and avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight, especially between 10am and 3pm when the sun is at peak intensity.”
The department also urged people to avoid starting unnecessary fires. “The public is urged to avoid starting outdoor fires and safeguard against their spread by constructing fire guards that are maintained free from combustible matter and are, at least, nine metres wide.”
The department also said clouds should start trickling through Zimbabwe’s western border giving rise to hot and humid afternoon conditions with thundershowers in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Masvingo and the southern parts of Midlands and Matabeleland North.
In places where isolated showers are expected, the MET advised people to stay indoors, during thunderstorms.
“Lighting strikes are a major risk during this season. When thunder roars, it is best to be indoors.”
