ANYONE who thought Asaph “Mambo” Afrika and Briza were beefing is in for a nasty surprise as the pair have collaborated on a song set for release soon on major DSPs.
In the high-stakes world of hip-hop, where digital whispers often fuel imaginary fires, the “Mambo” himself has chosen to extinguish the drama with a masterstroke of musical diplomacy.
By joining forces with Briza, Asaph Afrika isn’t just releasing a song; he’s sending a clear message to the industry: personal friction is fleeting, but the pursuit of excellence is a lifetime commitment.
The Bulawayo-based returns with his latest single, “Bhuru Shaka Zulu”, a tribal trap anthem rooted in confidence and identity. The track serves as a heavy-hitting reminder of Asaph’s lyrical prowess, blending traditional pride with the grit of modern street culture.
The record also features Tha Dawg, the powerhouse who delivered the standout chorus on Asaph’s smash hit “Mambo,” ensuring a sense of continuity for long-time fans.
Briza, one of the nascent hip-hop voices within the Bulawayo and national new-wave hip-hop scene completes the trio and the collaboration serves as a symbolic co-sign for Briza, marking him as one of the new generation’s dominant voices and an emerging face of the, “new school.”
The release continues Asaph Afrika’s growing momentum within Bulawayo’s hip-hop movement.
As the city rallies together to reclaim its status as the Hip Hop Capital of Zimbabwe, “Bhuru Shaka Zulu” acts as both a fearless anthem and a cultural statement.
Inspired by the collaborative spirit that defined Bulawayo hip-hop’s golden era between 2014 and 2019, the track focuses on unity rather than division.
It proves that while industry “beefs” might generate clicks for a week, it is the collaborative “class” and artistic vision that leave a lasting imprint on the culture.
Asaph Afrika said working with Briza has been cool.
“Working with Briza has been pretty cool. If you told me last year that we’d be on a song together after he dissed Kwela Initiative, I’d have said you were crazy, but just life and maturing really helped me look past all that and want to continue to build for the greater good of the city. Briza is one of the top new faces in Hip Hop. We need more cross-generation collaborations, so we really live the whole scene,” he said.
It’s not the first time that the pair has worked together, as last year, the duo dropped “Nkulumoney.”
A record this significant requires a specific sonic architecture, and this one was meticulously crafted by local producer Klyve Beats.
The single was recorded at The Balcony Studios in Bulawayo, with the engineering, mixing, and mastering handled by veteran artiste and producer, M.U.S.E, the studio’s founder, ensuring the track possesses the high-end polish necessary to match its cultural weight.
The result is a polished, high-energy experience that bridges the gap between the legends of the city and the hungry newcomers.
While “Bhuru Shaka Zulu” is currently available on YouTube with an official visualiser, fans can expect it to hit major streaming platforms in the coming weeks. However, the ambition doesn’t stop at the audio.
Discussions are underway for an official music video collaboration involving some of Bulawayo’s top visual creatives.
Content creator Langa Ndimande has reportedly been appointed executive director for the visual rollout, aiming to bring the world of “Bhuru Shaka Zulu” to life through a high-impact cinematic experience.
On the business front, Asaph Afrika has recently entered into a partnership with 3rd World Entertainment, which will oversee bookings and live performances under the watchful eye of CEO Tara Jetter.
In an industry where “beef” is often used as a marketing crutch, Asaph Afrika and Briza have chosen a different path.
They’ve proven that while rivalries are temporary, the class shown through a unified front is exactly what keeps a King on his throne. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
