A MUTARE motorist has been arrested after he was captured in a video that viral on social media platforms assaulting a policeman in uniform at a city service station.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Brendon Tsakatsa of Chikanga, who is suspected to be a pirate taxi (common referred to as mushika-shika) driver.
“Reference is made to a video circulating on social media showing a police officer being assaulted by a motorist at a service station. The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports that Brendon Tsakatsa (29) of Number 1 285 Chikanga 1, Mutare has been arrested for assaulting Constable Maxwell Mukumbuzi at a service station in Mutare on Monday, June 29, 2026,” he said.
Commissioner Nyathi urged motorists and the public to comply with the police at all times during execution of their duties.
“Police strongly warn kombi and pirate taxi operators as well as all members of the public against assaulting, resisting or obstructing police officers in the lawful execution of their duties. Such conduct constitutes a criminal offence and offenders will be arrested and brought before the courts without fear or favour.,” said Commissioner Nyathi, adding: “Members of the public are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement officers and where they have grievances regarding police conduct, to seek redress through established channels rather than resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands.”
