Astra Paints tennis tourney hots up

Taremeredzwa Mariga defeated Francis Chirinda 46, 62, 61 to go through to the semifinals. In the Under16 section top seed, Ngoni Makambwa, beat Takunda Dube 62, 61 while Tonderai Tapfuma defeated Munesu Chatikobo 26, 75, 64.
Julius Mutetwa also had a good day on the court when he defeated second seed  Muzin­gaye Sibanda 75, 62. The Under 14 boys saw Batsirayi Saurombe beating Tinashe Chikara 61, 62. Knowledge Ndlovu defeated second seed Bongani Sibanda 75, 64. In the Under 12s, top seed Valentine Manyawiri beat Neville Chirewa 61, 61 while second seed Andrew Kunaka defeated Liam Hounsew 26, 62, 62.
In the Under 18 girls’ section, Keren Muswere upset  top seed Tariro Dembo 63, 63 while Rufaro Chirewa beat Michael Lock 16,76, 61. Second seed Latifa Yasini beat Rumbidzai Rugaro 62, 62, while Karen Machisa defeated Wendy  Rudhu 64, 63.
Machisa said yesterday’s match was compet­itive. “The match was competitive, I was really under pressure but am happy that have made it to the semifinal. I am going to play against Yasini and am expecting a competitive match but I will take it as it comes,” said Machisa.
The Under14 girls are also expected to play the semifinals today.
Top seed Beverly Matsiwe beat Sharlyn Thole 61, 62. Tegan Mortimer defeated second seed Danai Chinamo 60, 26, 64 while Chengeto Manyara beat Yolanda Kasipo 62, 62.
