Atkinson tasered, dies

LONDON. — Former English Premier League soccer star Dalian Atkinson is reported to have died after being Tasered by police outside his dad’s home.

The ex Aston Villa and Man City star is said to have gone into cardiac arrest after cops were called in the hours of yesterday morning.

Police were called to a home after receiving reports that people were concerned for the safety of a person in Telford.

Officers from West Mercia Police raced to the scene at 1:30am yesterday morning and a Taser was used on a 48-year-old man.

He received medical attention after going into cardiac arrest but was pronounced dead at around 3am.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

In a statement the force said: “Upon arrival Taser was deployed and a 48-year-old man, who subsequently received medical attention, was pronounced dead at approximately 3am.

“West Mercia Police are unable to comment any further as the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as is normal procedure and will assist the IPCC with their enquiries.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called by West Mercia Police to an address in Meadow Close in the Trench area of Telford at about 1:45am this morning.

“An ambulance was dispatched and upon arrival found a man who had been Tasered.” — The Sun.
