Attempt to fix ex-lover backfires

Dr Anesu Muswe was arrested at the Harare Magistrates’ Court where he had been summoned to testify as a State witness to prove the authenticity of the bills in the maintenance case of Makoni West Member of the House of Assembly Webber Chinyadza (MDC-T).

But Muswe – who is based at Fife Avenue Medical Centre – told the prosecutor before the case began that he had forged the medical bills leading to his arrest.
Sheila Ruponga was demanding US$250 from Chinyandza.
The MP was being accused of initially failing to pay $686,50 maintenance for his nine-month-old child’s medical bills and contravening the Maintenance Act.

The court however, reduced the amount to US$250 after ruling that the civil court’s order was effected from July 31 last year and some of the bills were backdated.
Before taking the witness stand, Dr Muswe confessed to prosecutor Mr Desire Mupudzi that the bills were fake.
He also admitted that he had not attended to Ruponga’s child.

He however, put the blame on Ruponga saying she was the one who exerted pressure on him to forge the receipts to fix Chinyadza.
Mr Mupudzi asked Ruponga if the allegations were true and she admitted to committing the offence.
The prosecutor reported the matter to his superiors whereupon police arrested Muswe.

A police officer at the courts confirmed the arrest.
Ruponga will now testify as a State witness in Muswe’s case.
Sources yesterday confirmed Muswe was being held at Harare Central Police Station and is expected to appear in court on Monday next week.

Ruponga had taken Chinyadza to court for failing to meet medical expenses for their child.
Chinyadza, however, denied the allegations and challenged the authenticity of the medical bills Ruponga produced.
Ruponga had sought postponement claiming that the child was admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Magistrate Mr Archie Wochiunga remanded the matter to August 26 for continuation of trial.
According to Ruponga, Chinyadza was paying US$75 per month as maintenance.
She also accused him of failing to settle medical bills as ordered by the courts.
