NRZ to run holiday train service

holidays.
Schools close on Thursday next week while the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays are on August 9.
In a statement, NRZ spokesperson Mr Fanuel Masikati said the company was committed to providing alternative and affordable transport.

“We have realised that school children and holiday travellers usually get stranded at bus terminuses during the school closure and public holidays and we have arranged to provide additional passenger coaches to cater for the increased demand during the Heroes and Defence Forces holiday.
“We are geared and committed to ferry holiday travellers during the Heroes and Defence Forces Holiday and would like to appeal to our valued customers to book and buy tickets in order to avoid inconveniences,” he said.

Mr Masikati said the NRZ would run a special train from Bulawayo to Harare on Friday August 5 to cater for school children and holiday travellers.
The Bulawayo-Francistown train would run on its normal schedule.

“There will be no commuter train services in Bulawayo and Harare from August 8 and 9 because most people who use commuter trains will close for the holiday and the service will resume after the holiday on August 10,” he said.

Mr Masikati advised travellers to use proper platform walkways and avoid crossing underneath stationary trains.
“NRZ has also observed with great concern dangerous attempts and practices by children along the railway lines who loiter and sit on the main line railway tracks as well as those who put on head phones when walking along the railway lines, an act which is highly risky and discouraged.”
