Africa University is set to celebrate its 30th graduation ceremony on Saturday, with Mozambique’s former President Joaquim Chissano as the keynote speaker.
The event marks three decades of academic excellence and achievement at one of Africa’s premier institutions of higher learning.
In a communique, AU said over 500 graduands will receive their degrees, adding that the graduating class comprises students from 22 nationalities.
“With a total of 569 graduands set to receive their degrees, this ceremony symbolises the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Among the graduating class, a noteworthy 57.5 percent are female students, reflecting Africa University’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment,” said the university.
“The graduating cohort comprises 417 undergraduate students, 149 graduate students, and three recipients of Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil/PhD) degrees, representing a diverse range of academic disciplines and fields of study.
“One of the hallmarks of Africa University is its global perspective, evident in the presence of 113 international students among this year’s graduating class.
“This international diversity is further highlighted by the representation of 22 nationalities (Angola, Lesotho, Burundi, Cameroon, DRC, Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Eswatini, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe), underscoring the university’s role as a melting pot of cultures, ideas and perspectives.”
The University said the presence of the former President of Mozambique adds a distinguished touch to the event and underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering dialogue and leadership development across the continent.
The former President is renowned in African politics and humanitarian efforts, having played a pivotal role in Mozambique’s independence and socio-economic reforms.
