In a bid to conserve the environment, the private sector has launched the Zimbabwe Green Initiative which seeks to mitigate the impact of climate change and promote a greener, more sustainable Zimbabwe.
The initiative was launched during the Sustainable Business and Suppliers Symposium in Harare yesterday.
The Zimbabwe Green Initiative fosters a balance between sustaining businesses and preserving the environment.
Care Country Director, Mr Patrick Sikana said: “There is a pressing need to address the impact of climate change in light of recent disasters such as the El Niño phenomenon.”
He said the initiative targets women as they often resort to risky coping mechanisms for their families’ survival.
“The project will run for 18 months, which we thought could help people sail through this drought period. However, we do not know what the next harvest will be like, so if we don’t get a good harvest, we might have to extend our support to the next season,” he said.
