A 30-year-old Harare woman on Friday appeared in court on allegations of sexually abusing her nine-year-old nephew.

The woman from Warren Park 1 was not asked to plead to indecent assault charges when she appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Babra Mateko.

She was remanded in custody to August 26 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The court heard that sometime in 2016, the accused who was living with the minor at their grandmother’s house, returned from work and called him into a room and he complied.

While inside the room, it is alleged that she removed the minor’s clothes before sexually abusing him.

The court heard that after the sexual abuse, the accused told the minor not to tell anyone.

The matter came to light on July 23, 2020 when the minor revealed the issue to the accused’s daughter.

A report was made to police leading to her arrest.

Meanwhile, police in Norton recently arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly raping his nine-year-old stepdaughter.

The man, whose name has been withheld to protect the victim, was arrested at his homestead in Maridale after medical reports confirmed the abuse.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident.

“On 19 July, we arrested a man from Maridale, Norton who allegedly raped his 9-year-old stepdaughter.

“The suspect is alleged to have left the victim’s mother and sneaked out of the bedroom to go into the little girl’s room. He raped the minor twice before warning her against telling her mother.”

The following day, the victim’s mother went to check on the girl who was taking long to wake up.

Upon being quizzed, the girl revealed what had happened during the night and a report was made to police leading to the man’s arrest.
