Aunt remanded in custody for abusing bedwetting boy

Zodwa Tshuma (44), from Maqaqeni Village in Ntabazinduna, yesterday appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Victor Mpofu facing charges of contravening Section 3 (a) of the Domestic Violence Act, Chapter 9:16 (physical abuse).

Tshuma was not formally charged and Mr Mpofu, who was on circuit in Mbembesi, remanded her in custody to 1 November.

It is the State case as presented by Mrs Memory Ndlovu that sometime last month Tshuma allegedly assaulted the boy with a hammer on top of his feet for no apparent reason.

During the same month, the State says, Tshuma assaulted the boy with a wooden log and allegedly pulled his private parts and tongue using a pair of pliers accusing the child of bedwetting.

The offence came to light after some police officers went to her home and later took the boy to the police station.

The boy sustained several injuries all over his body and has now been placed in the children’s home in Bulawayo.
