THREE women accused of committing a spate of sex attacks on male hitchhikers in search of semen appeared in court yesterday facing aggravated indecent assault charges.
Sisters Sophie (26) and Netsai Nhokwara (24) and Rosemary Chakwizira (28) are the first suspects to be arrested in connection with sex attacks on men since such cases were first reported two years ago.
They were jointly charged with Thulani Ngwenya (24).
Their 17 victims identified so far include a soldier and a policeman whom they allegedly abused without using condoms.
Inflation’s upward trend continues

ZIMBABWE’S annual inflation rate has continued on an upward trend with the September rate gaining 0,8 percentage points to 4,3 percent due to a recent 31 percent increase in electricity tariffs.
This means that prices recorded an average increase of 4,3 percentage points between September 2010 and September 2011.
The surge in inflation poses serious threats to the projected year end target of 3,5 percent as pressure is coming from adjustments in the price of basic commodities.
Indications are that inflation is likely to end the year below 5 percent, assuming limited impact from exogenous shocks such as fuel prices and appreciation as well as containment of domestic costs particularly the wage bill.
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency on Friday said the month on month inflation rate for September was 0,8 percent gaining 0,7 percentage points on the August rate of 0,1 percent.
Zanu-PF, MDC-T head for policy showdown

MDC-T and Zanu-PF are heading for a showdown as it emerged yesterday that the former has crafted a parallel economic empowerment policy dubbed Jobs, Investment and Upliftment Programme that it wants the inclusive Government to implement.
The party plans to officially launch the policy next week.
There is already an Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act, which requires all foreign-owned firms to cede 51 percent shareholding to consortiums run by local people which the inclusive Government is implementing.
This policy, which is the brainchild of Zanu-PF, entails giving indigenous Zimbabweans ownership of companies first and then grow the businesses later.
