Avail more land for resettlement, war veterans urge Govt

The chapter’s chairman, Cde Michael Tshaliba, said this week of late their offices have been inundated with people asking the ex-fighters to assist them get land in nearby Bubi District.

Nkayi is one of the few districts in the country that did not have commercial farms.
“We are calling on Government officials in Matabeleland North to see to it that those who did not get land are given. Some people have been waiting to be allocated land since the beginning of the land reform programme at the turn of the century,” said Cde Tshaliba.

“We have vetted 79 war veterans out of a long list to acquire land, but they are also failing to get land because Bubi District officials are not cooperating. They are giving land to people from other areas that do not deserve it”.

Cde Tshaliba also called on Zanu-PF to improve the welfare of war collaborators, saying they were important stakeholders in the country’s political affairs.
He also called on the Government to capacitate war veterans living in the rural areas.

“War veterans at times miss important Government functions because of lack of resources. The Government should provide each district with a car so that we actively take part in national programmes,” said Cde Tshaliba.
