THE avenging spirit of a Mutasa man who was murdered 22 years ago has been tormenting his own family after the alleged murderers used some back-to-sender charms on his family.
The late Clifford Nyagomo, who was murdered by fellow villagers in 1978, has for the past 20 been tormenting his family members.
This was revealed last week on Saturday at the Kujeke homestead in Mutasa where traditional healer, Sekuru Mukotsanjera, was leading the appeasement process for Tukai Kujeke’s avenging spirit.
Nyagomo was a member of the Rhodesian Police Force and was labelled a sell-out by other villagers, before he was murdered.
For the past 20 years, the Nyagomo family of Maondo Village under Chief Mutasa has not known peace as the spirit has been wreaking havoc.
According to Chemai Nyagomo, the late Clifford’s sister, his avenging spirit killed two of his own sons.
“Twenty-two years ago after the Ferendende family had found out that my brother’s avenging spirit was wreaking havoc in their family, they came to our home with one goat. Only our mother was present when they visited our home. Our mother rushed to the Village Head with the news and left the visitors at home alone.
“Unbeknownst to her, the Ferendende family took advantage of her absence and conducted some back to-sender rituals inside her kitchen hut. When she returned, the Village Head kicked the Ferendendes out of the homestead and told them to use the proper channels to appease the spirit, not knowing that they had already finished their rituals and dumped my brother’s avenging spirit at our home,” said Chemai.
She said ever since then, the spirit has killed many family members.
It is said the Nyagomo family members suffer from mental health challenges before dying.
The spirit now manifests on Clifford’s daughter, Charity Nyagomo. Asked by Sekuru Mukotsanjera on why he was tormenting his family and not avenging his death, Nyagomo’s spirit, through Charity, said he was powerless as he was dumped at his homestead by the Ferendendes.
Nyagomo’s nephew, Tonderai Mashingaidze said: “Charity was only three months old when her father was killed and now he is manifesting through her and killing her brothers and sisters. We all know the murderers, but we cannot do anything about it. Just before they did the back-to-sender rituals, they were all struggling with mental illness and now it has shifted to us. Since they visited my grandmother with the goat, our family is now suffering. It is unfair that the murderers are enjoying their lives while the family of the victim is suffering,” he said.
Sekuru Mukotsanjera said the matter should be reported to Chief Mutasa so that the culprits can be held accountable.
He instructed Village Head Maondo to make the report.
“A murdered person’s spirit should not torment his or her own family, that is not right. In this matter, the culprits are already known, take this issue to Chief Mutasa’s court so that these culprits are brought to book.
“They should tell the truth on what they did when they visited the Nyagomo homestead with their goat. The late Nyagomo is killing his own children. This is now a serious matter and it needs urgent address so that his spirit is appeased,” said Sekuru Mukotsanjera.
