AN axe-wielding 13-year-old boy from Zvishavane ambushed and sodomised a five-year-old girl on her way from school, a court heard yesterday. The boy from Mukwekwe village under Chief Wedza appeared before Gweru regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire who ruled that the boy receive moderate correction of six strokes.
Prosecuting Emmanuel Mathosi told the court that on 14 February last year, the boy was herding cattle at Hanawa grazing area when the complainant and her three friends were on their way home.
The court heard that when the complainant and her friends were approaching the area, the boy suddenly emerged from the bush carrying an axe and grabbed the complainant by the hand and dragged her into the bushes.
Mathosi said he threatened the complainant’s friends and ordered them to continue walking and never to say a word to anyone.
The boy sodomised the girl.
Mathosi told the court that the girl cried as she was pained but the boy continued sexually assaulting her while telling her to keep quiet.
He said when the boy had finished, he ordered her to go home and not to tell anyone about what had happened.
The court heard that the boy told the victim she risked having her head chopped off if she told anyone.
Mathosi said when the girl arrived home, she narrated her ordeal to her mother who immediately took her to Zvishavane District Hospital where she was medically examined.
A doctor confirmed that the complainant had been sexually abused.
The mother later reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the boy.
