THE Bulawayo medical profession is mourning the death of another distinguished specialist, Doctor Greanious Alfred Mavondo, who died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) on Friday.
Bulawayo provincial medical director, Dr Maphios Siamuchembu, confirmed the development.
The late Professor Mavondo was also a lecturer at the National University of Science and Technology teaching chemical pathology in the Faculty of Medicine.
“It is a very sad loss for the community of Bulawayo. Dr Mavondo was not only an academic, he was a mentor teaching at the University of Science and Technology (NUST).
“He was also involved in the innovation hubs and was the main person at the center of connecting the academic to the actual practical work of seeing how we can translate some of the things that we know in theory into practical and real innovation that could help our communities. We worked very well with him. It is a sad loss that he has left us.”
Dr Siamuchembu said Prof Mavondo leaves behind a huge gape that will be difficult to fill.
He said he was yet to receive details as to what could have happened leading to his death. Prof Mavondo was buried at Umvutshwa Cemetery yesterday.
