Itas no longer the 80s or 90s where people would go to bars, discos, and just every other place, even risking looking for love in the wrong places, people now log on to social media but itas still not safe.
Online dating has its potential dangers but it has its good side too. Itas the same as B-Metroas popular dateline where we publish messages from people seeking people and their expectations from whoever they want to hook up with.
Itas not a thing to be ashamed of in the 21st century because remember in some sections of society, for centuries there have been arranged marriages. The only difference with online dating and our dateline being that you get to arrange your own affair!
Those that have gone on to marry, thanks to B-Metro and other a?date fixersa? out there will nod in agreement.
But the nasty side of it is that itas pretty bad when your business gets out to the world just like in the case of a Zimbabwe Prison Services employee who divulged too much information to a social media hookup (see “money-for sex deal backfires” story ).
He fell victim to what appeared in an online love group where some young men mostly Zimbabweans search for sugar mummies who offer money in exchange for sex.
His South Africa-based a?businesswomana? claimed to be rich and sex-starved with intentions to fly him down for a visit.
What he failed to note is that, itas important to keep ALL dialogue restricted to the messaging services on a website, social media and any other platform, NEVER use your real identity because you might never know who is on the other end of the line.
Always trust your instinct when doing these things because that little voice that will say, a?I told you so,a? in your head when things go wrong will annoy you as if your brain acts independently from your body. Also have it in mind that if it sounds too good to be true, walk away because at times the a?perfect matcha? could be a con.
That is why if you manage to get information on the person you are going to meet make sure you try to do a background check as much as you can. Even if it yields very little information, it could be useful.
Blind dates should never be a one personas secret no matter how dodgy looking for a partner in a lottery manner could sound.
Let someone else know where you are, and check back in with that person at the end of the date.
Who knows maybe had the Zimbabwe Prison Service employee told someone about his potential sugar mummy a he could have been advised not to send his nude pictures and other personal information that is now in the public domain. Who is to blame?
