Baby dies in inferno

A TWO-MONTH-OLD baby was last Friday burnt beyond recognition in Rusape after the house he was sleeping in caught fire from an unattended burning candle.Police said the burning candle  was left near the curtains and triggered the fire.

The baby, Brave Chikwesa’s mother, Melody Mupangwa (28), left a burning candle unattended after she had gone to fetch firewood.

Police confirmed the incident which happened at House Number 3431, Garikayi Section.

“Melody left her house at around 6pm to fetch firewood and left Brave sleeping on a mattress. She left a burning candle near curtains. A neighbour, Praise Mugadza observed smoke coming out of one of the rooms and alerted other neighbours. She mobilised other neighbours and gained entry through the main door. Brave’s body was burnt beyond recognition,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.
