A PLUMTREE Town Council worker stumbled on the body of a new born baby that was dumped at the sewer ponds located on the outskirts of the border town.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Thabani Mkhwananzi, confirmed the incident.
He said no arrests had been made but he appealed to people with relevant information that could help in the investigations to contact the police.
“A town council employee was working at the sewer ponds when he discovered the body of a new born baby which was dumped in one of the ponds,” he said.
The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene and recovered the body which was then taken to Plumtree District Hospital Mortuary.
Mathendele area councillor, Cornelius Nyathi, whose area of jurisdiction is close to the sewer ponds said the sewer treatment plant had become a notorious undesignated dumpsite where some people abandon bodies of their unwanted new born babies.
He said another baby was recently found at the Plumtree dumpsite which is situated close to the sewer treatment plant.
