Bafa splits 2016 league

THE Edgars Bulawayo Amateur Football Association chairman, Chris Mutungwazi, has said the 2016 league will be split into two pools if teams expressing an interest in joining are registered.

“This is a sign that our league is growing and we want to see it grow even more. So far 10 teams have requested for affiliation and we’re hoping six more will send requests so that we start a second pool,” said Mutungwazi.

Bafa already has 16 teams that took part in the 2015 league which was clinched by Madamara FC for the second-year running.

Madamara amassed 66 points, while second-placed Rebels managed 62 points and Bulawayo Tigers finished third with 57 points; the same number of points as fourth-placed Unity Village but with a superior goal difference.

Mutungwazi said they would hold their annual general meeting at the end of this month to review the 2015 season and draw up a calendar for 2016.

“We’re also going to discuss our expansion strategy as we want to cater for all local amateur teams. There’s a lot of exposure that they can get,” Mutungwazi said.

“Last year we had a challenge with grounds but the Bulawayo City Council has availed some grounds for use and the meeting will plan how we are going to utilise the grounds.”
