Baker’s Inn boosts capacity

Baker’s Inn general manager Mr David Muchinguri yesterday told the Herald Business that the two plants will each have a production capacity of 100 000 loaves of bread.
“We are currently working on a new site in Graniteside with the capacity to produce 100 000 loaves a day, and we expect it to be commissioned by the end of November. A similar plant should be commissioned by mid-December,” he said.
Mr Muchinguri added that the company is also upgrading its production outlets for buns and rolls in order to meet demand.
“Right now we are running short in terms of these products,” he said.
It is expected that the broader effect of this expansion drive will be the creation of new jobs.
The company is seeking to take advantage of a lack of effective competition on the local market as the country’s other bakeries seem to be facing operational challenges.
Bakers’ Inn, which is the bakeries division of Innscor Africa Ltd, saw increased volumes up 53 percent for the financial year to June 30, 2012, largely driven by a third new line at its Lytton plant, which was commissioned in November last year.
The company, whose current distribution network covers Harare, Chitungwiza, Chinhoyi, Kadoma, Karoi and Chivhu, is set to extend its tentacles to other areas such as Nyamapanda, Kariba, Headlands and Murambinda.
“What we intend to do is to guarantee 100 percent supplies to all traders, be they rural or urban, by the festive season,” said Mr Muchinguri.
Meanwhile, the company yesterday added to its social responsibility by handing over US$830 to Ms Esther Kurenga for hospital bills for her 14-year-old son Tanaka who suffers from hernia.
Ms Kurenga is currently unemployed.
The bills, owed to Karanda Mission Hospital in Mt Darwin, had accrued since 2010, when the boy started undergoing treatment.
